Gathering

Gathering

Gathering raw resources happens at "dynamic locations", which are locations on the map that spawn and expire periodically. You have to find them first, either by exploring yourself or buying a map with found locations on them.

Dynamic Locations

Once at a location, you can interact with different "features" there - these include things like groves of oak trees, a fishing spot, a thicket of raspberry bushes, etc. Gathering at each of these locations costs stats (generally more hunger and thirst and a little fatigue). Each of these features has a globally shared amount available at that specific location, which ones exhausted will cause that feature to disappear.

Quality Levels

Each feature also has a quality level, which is the average quality resources returned by gathering there - these are calculated from the location's quality level, which is in turn based on where the location spawned on the map (there are areas which generally return higher quality locations on average when they spawn, players will need to find those).

Homestead Gathering

The second place gathering happens is at homesteads. There is more on that in the homestead sections, but you are able to basically lock down a dynamic location permanently and gather a reduced version of the features there in perpetuity. You can augment gathering at these locations with relevant buildings like a mine, lumberjack hut, etc.

Investigating Ruins

Ruins are a special type of feature that can be investigated. If you have sufficient knowledge of the specific language on those ruins, you may discover hidden locations like dungeons. This makes language skills valuable for explorers seeking to unlock the continent's secrets.
